Albora Technologies and the Zenzic CAM Scale-Up programme

Today, we are happy to update the results of the project to develop a high-precision navigation system carried out by ALBORA.

Albora has developed a high-precision geolocation open ecosystem that delivers accurate positioning coordinates ubiquitously, specially addressing problems in challenging environments such as urban areas and industrial/infrastructure complexes.
Our ecosystem currently consists of 2 products: ALBASnap and ALBASpot.
ALBORA was founded with the drive to address geolocation technologies’ most pressing problems.
Our multi-disciplinary team draws expertise from more than 125 years in business, industry and academia to develop a unique and disruptive technology – ALCORE.
Build the first Dev circuit board.
ALBORA is interested in ESPrtk’s solution and intends to use ESPrtk in their ecosystem.
A test board was built right away .
It includes ESPRTK, RTK Receiver GNSS , SIM800L Internet , OLED (Display) and a 5V-3.3V voltage converter circuit.
This system will works as an NTRIP ROVER using 2G network. (No WIFI).
Build the second Dev circuit board.
After testing the software on the first board in the lab.
ALBORA moved to build a second panel for outdoor testing purposes.
It is more compact, with 4G/LTE internet support , adds several external communication ports and has an additional aluminum protective cover.
Outdoor test.
We have RTK FIX in the lab.
The next test is the outdoor test.
We prepared an RTK Base Station and place the antenna on the roof of a building in the city.
Antenna Rover will be placed on the roof of a vehicle.
Test result.
Everything is ready now.
We had a very good RTK outdoors although in crowded city conditions with tall buildings and trees.

Albora’s testing journey
The Zenzic Cam Scale-Up programme offered Albora the opportunity to put their software through more stringent testing against the hardware it integrates with. They tested at UTAC Millbrook and Smart Mobility Living Lab: London (SMLL). UTAC Millbrook provided a high speed circuit with an open sky area, offering unobstructed satellites for accurate geolocation positioning. By working with SMLL, Albora were able to shorten their research and development timeframes by taking advantage of the dense urban environment provided, enabling them to assess their performance and adjust their technology for challenging environments.
Albora utilised the testbeds by testing every possible combination of GNSS, on-board diagnostic connectivity, inertial measurement unit, cheap antenna and helix antenna to discover RTK centimetre-level accuracy in complex environments and push their technology to the limit.
The data received from the tests will be used to inform their understanding of their current limitations and improve their technology. It will also provide a more robust dataset to provide potential partners in the Albora ecosystem.
What would success look like?
Success will come from more stringent testing and larger datasets, proving Albora’s capacity to provide accurate geolocation positioning in even the most challenging environments. It can offer proof that the technology is robust enough to implement in vehicles in a way that is both scalable and cost efficient.
We’re never finished stress-testing, validating and improving our technology, but we know that the sky’s the limit for Albora. Our ambition is multi-industry and global. Right now we’re focused on micro mobility, but we see Albora growing within IOT, industry 4.0, wearables, autonomous vehicles and drones.” – Anselm AdamsProgramme results.
Albora’s testing programme has resulted in business success across three core aspects.
#1 – Development
They were able to stress-test their technology in both urban environments and in unobstructed areas, leading to a richer dataset that shortened their development timeframes.
#2 – Networking
Participating in the Zenzic CAM Scale-Up programme has offered Albora an additional layer of legitimacy within the UK CAM network, offering them greater opportunities to connect with new clients.
#3 – Sustainability
By validating the accuracy of their software, they’re able to better serve their customer base by providing high-performing geo-location positioning that is extremely energy, and cost efficient.
